Hello A couple of things. I am looking to to the MCITP 70-452 Exam in March, 2012. Based on your expeirience with this exam, how intensive is the focus on SSAS, data mining and MDX queries? So far, it is my experience that before getting your head completely around the SSAS usage and features it is critical to have at least an intermediate understanding or SSRS and SSIS usage and best practices. It's almost as if the SSAS skill set is built upon a certain mastery of data integration and reporting techniques. Would you agree? I am seeing more and more in recent weeks a higher demand for SSAS/MDX "experts" that have a deep understanding of those features. I have also seen a couple of cases where an IT/BI shop tried to hire someone with a good bit of SSRS/SSIS/SQL Dev Experience and ramp them up on SSAS/MDX. That experiment failed for both shops and both individuals involved. Would your assessment of SSAS/MDX skills be similar? Looking forward to hearing back from you. Take Care and great Blog!! Will

Hi Will. As you can see in skills being measured, SSAS+Mining+MDX takes the most percentage in both exams. So in both exams there is an intensive focus and you will need a strong knowledge on them. About the second question, I disagree with you. There were questions about mdx that you do not need to know anything about ssis. I remember a question where you needed to get the parallel period of a certain member. This can be answered without no knowledge in SSIS. Same for mining, I remeber some questions about properties and mining models. I disagree on that, but to pass in this exam you will always need strong knowledge in BI stack in order you to pass both exams.

Thanks for the feedback. Was also looking at the Testking offerings and they have the 70-448 prep material marked as the MCITP prep material. I'm thinking this is not correct. If this is the case I already have that material. How did you prep for MCITP 70-452. I also have the book for "Delivering Business Intelligence with Microsoft SQL Server 2008" ISBN: 9780071549448, which seems to cover a good bit of material in the Skills being measured on 70-452. Any thoughts?

No, 70-448 helps you get MCITP, I think that's what they want to say. Take a look to what you need http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcitp.aspx#tab2 70-448 + 70-452 = MCITP: Business Intelligence

So I finally took the plunge and took 70-452. Did not pass. Needed a 700 and got a 656. So the strange thing is, I walked into the exam thinking that "Designing Data Mining Models" and "Designing Analysis Services Databases" would be the places where I where I would potentially get killed. Partly because I haven't really had any hands on where I currently work. Just the tutorials and the literature. But in reality, I got killed in "Designing and Deploying SSIS Packages" and "Administering a BI Solution". I work with SSIS nearly every day but the scenarios that were presented I was just simply stumped. So back to the drawing board to see if I can't fill in the gaps and improve that score to 1000.

Well, sometimes this things happens. There are a lot of tricky questions, indeed. Some times we believe 2 answers are right, but you need to choose the best. In my case Data Mining were my problem. inspite of working with datamining and statistics in SAS and other software, I've never had the change to use that in my professional activity. So I downloaded some adventureworks so I could get better in this field. Wish you best luck for next time. Let us know from you soon.

As I mentioned, I believe 70-452 was easier. But all depends on how ready you are and if you already experienced any of the skills being measured.

Hi All. Today i've cleared 70-448 exam. i've used Microsoft Training material for cracking the exam. I was comfortable with SSIS and SSRS and was bit worried on SSAS. But at the end of the day have cracked the exam..Will take a break and will start working on SSAS. Best of luck for the people who are preparing for 70-448.
