I want to thank one of my more recent students for giving me blog topic. I am not going to mention names, so thank you……… Hopefully, you are reading this and know who you are. After his question, I thought to myself, SELF I should share this with the WOOOORRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!
Here is the question:
I had to reinstall my SQL-Server 2008 server and now when I am trying to go to the URL http://svrsqlrpts/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx , I am getting the error:
User 'SVRSQLRPTS\AdminDBA' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.
Here is the suggestion:
If you get this error when trying to view the Report Manager, try right clicking on Internet Explorer and select the option to Run as Administrator. This can sometimes this happens with Win 7 and Vista because the UAC (User Acct Controls) is turned up high and won't allow you to access this. You could go to Start / Type: UAC / Turn Down.
Once you are in the Report Manager, you can go to Site Settings, click on Security and then click on New Role Assignment.
Once you are in the menu option for New Role Assignment, create your assignment for yourself. You have the option between System Administrator and System User.
Please let me know if this tip helps you!
Thanks
Sherri,
I don't seem to be able to get around the security message, even running IE as administrator. When I enter http://localhost/reports into the address bar, I get a Windows Security prompt for the password for the currently logged-in user (which is a member of the Administrators group). Even when I enter my password, I get the error message about not having the required permissions, and I can't access the Site Settings link to make the change you recommend.
Is there a way to force Reporting Services to grant me Admin permissions?
Well done Sherri!
