Hi Devin - I wanted to get your opinion on scoping out BI Tools my boss needs to purchase in order for me to migrate our BI solution from SQL server 2008 and SSIS ETL process with file based Excel reporting. To more of a SQL 2012 solution that will enable a much more light weight excel client or reporting client. We deliver over 170 excel reports each month to medical provider organizations. Some of these files can get very large due to writing a lot of data extracts into the excel file reports, member details and claim details etc. How can we transform the reporting piece so that the providers can have access to all of their data - but not have it all delivered to them in an Excel file. Should we generate a cube of the data and host it somewhere so they can connect to and only see their own data from excel? thanks Steve G

Hi Steve, Sounds like either a cube with row level security or SSRS report that are delivered directly to the users through subscriptions. Perhaps outputted as Excel files.

Thanks - what I would like to do - if possible is to host some data connected power view reports in SharePoint and have any public user with a supplied log in account to browse to a web site so they can see and interact with the data presented from the power view reports? Does that make sense? Not even sure what I am asking .. Right now we give them all this data and reports in an Excel File But I would like to have them get to their data through a browser or through an excel work book - but not have to actually send them many Mega Bytes of data in Excel files
