Today we’re going to take a look at the real time package monitoring feature of BIxPress. The real time monitoring feature of BIxPress will allow you to monitor current or past packages that have been executed on your company’s server. As you can see from the below images it looks just like it does in bids when your developing your SSIS packages. From this monitoring console you can watch a single or multiple packages as they run on the server. This feature can be very useful when trying to pinpoint a failure when troubleshooting a package. You can even use it to track how a package has been performing or to help performance tune your SSIS packages by locating badly performing tasks. In order to use this feature of BIxPress you will need have the BIxPress Auditing Framework installed on the packages you want to monitor.
The first step is to open the monitoring console. You can open this from bids or directly from BIxPress. Below you can see how to open this from bids.
After you have it open you have 3 options to choose from.
1. Monitor a single package.
2. Monitor multiple packages.
3. View prebuilt static reports to view a history of package executions.
Now that you have the monitoring window open you can view in real time as packages are being executed. Again you can watch it just like you do in bids as the different tasks, connections, and variables flicker.
