Rock the Vote - Outlook Voting Buttons

8/31/2010 by ChrisAlbrektson  -  Comments: 1  -  Views: [8650]

So today at the office I was faced with one of the more common and important questions that come up regularly and that was ‘Where are we going for lunch?’ This usually in tells a few minor arguments and what not especially if this involves a large number of people. A about a year or so ago a former colleague of mine showed me this neat trick to help make the situation a little easier. In Microsoft Outlook there’s a feature that you can set up in any email that will allow the recipients of the em...

Adding a Bing Map Layer

8/26/2010 by ChrisAlbrektson  -  Comments: 2  -  Views: [2546]

With the release of the SSRS 2008 R2 reporting developers now have a new tool that they can use when creating reports. The new tool I am talking about is the new map wizard. With this you can easily show totals by state to track whatever information your company is trying to track. When using the wizard there’re a few options that you can use when setting up the visual appeal of the report. By default you can use one of three options. 1. USA by State 2. USA by State Exploded 3. USA by State Inse...

In this session you'll learn how your Crystal knowledge will port to SQL Server Reporting Services and what your overall project will look like as you prepare for the migration. This is the link if you would like to register for the webinar. https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/511673321 This link will take you to the recording, sorry for the delay. http:...

Hiding reports in SSRS

8/17/2010 by ChrisAlbrektson  -  Comments: 1  -  Views: [3957]

Here’s another quick tip when working with SSRS. You recently have been creating a lot of new reports for your company and while all of the reports are necessary for the company they don’t like how cluttered everything looks in the report manager. In this situation some of the reports are summaries and details. All of the summary reports have actions set up in them that link to the detail reports. What you can do is hide the detail report in the report manager that will help clean up the report ...

Overlapping columns in SSRS

8/10/2010 by ChrisAlbrektson  -  Comments: 0  -  Views: [1932]

Today I was working on a report and stumbled across an issue that I was having while viewing the reports in the preview mode as well the production copy. The issue was that when I scrolled from left to right to view the report the columns started overlapping each other. The issue was in the grouping where there was a total line and that line had a background color to help make it more distinguished. While doing this was good for the visual appeal of the report but if you scrolled left to right i...

Repeating Column Headers in SSRS 2008 and R2

8/10/2010 by ChrisAlbrektson  -  Comments: 2  -  Views: [22697]

This blog is more of an FYI because it’s not a new issue just something I thought needed to be shared here on bidn. Quickly after SQL 2008 was launched SSRS developers soon found out that SSRS had a few bugs. The one in particular that seems to be the most bothersome are the column headers not repeating even though the report was configured to do so. So when we heard that SQL 2008 R2 was coming out we hoped that this would have been resolved but unfortunately for us this bug didn’t make it on th...

The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized

8/5/2010 by ChrisAlbrektson  -  Comments: 1  -  Views: [3292]

The other day I was setting up a reporting server that needed to have the Report Builder available for use in creating reports. In the process of trying to get the Report Builder to launch I kept getting this error, ‘the remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.’ After spending some time back tracking my steps and researching the issue I found the cause. The issue was that when I was logging into the report manager I was overlooking one small thing. If you’re having the same issue all...
