Earlier today I came up when executing a SSIS package on a workstation that recently had SQL Server Data Tools for Visual studio 2012 installed. It says, “Method not found: ‘Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Design.VisualStudio2012Utils.IsVisualStudio2012ProInstalled()’.

VS2012 Error

I found a fix for this solution here. The steps are as follows:

  1. Open the Developer Command Prompt for VS2012 (yes, there’s a special command prompt) as Administrator.
  2. Run the following command to change to the correct directory. cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies
  3. Finally, execute this command. gacutil /if Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Design.dll
  4. You should then see a command response, “Assembly successfully added to the cache”.

Some people in the source linked above had success when reinstalling Visual Studio, however I was able to follow these steps and resolved my problem quickly, with no required shutdown of my machine or even SSDT.
